Go Skateboarding Day 2024

The day began with free lessons for those wanting to improve their basic skateboarding skills. A decent number of young kids needed a hand with their kick turns, flat ground tricks, and other introductory tips. One kid stood out to me, he was pushing around with tons of speed and had Danny Fuenzalida teaching him how to front shuvit. After Danny explained his foot positioning and showed him it was not the same trick as a pop shuvit, the young homie figured it out with ease!

The day carried on with best tricks over different obstacles throughout the park. A smooth backside heelflip went down over the bump to bump toward the back end of the park that shut that one down. Next came a ton of bangers down the small double set. After that, the bump to rail in the back of the park had some hammers done on it. It was finished off with a crook nollie flip which was awarded with a huge Bones Bearings Box. The following obstacle to have a best trick held on it was the two hubbas towards the entrance of the park. That was a real treat to see everyone go all out on those. Will Gomez was able to walk do the most solid kickflip crook on one which put a cap on things.

Lastly, the final best trick presented by Ice Cream was held on the 8 stair and 8 Stair rail. Right off the bad so many tricks were put down bad to back. Even some of the little groms were in on the action. Not much time was left but it looked like one guy in particular was going to bring the win home. However, Zion Wright came through with a huge kickflip front blunt that had everyone fired up. He backed that up with a full cab front board and then a solid kickflip front 50. It was clear that he wrapped things up and was then awarded with the prize money from Ice Cream and the trophy.

The smiles, joy, and enthusiasm during each aspect of the event were unmatched and it was a pleasure to see so many people come together in the name of skateboarding.
